Swansea MRCGP Course is one of the UK's longest running preparatory courses for the MRCGP examination. The course is held in the Village Hotel, Swansea's newest hotel in the prestigious new SA1 development overlooking the bay. Swansea is situated in South West Wales and has good road and rail links, being about an hour's drive from the Severn Bridge.
The course is held over two full days, the first day being entirely informal lecture format, the second day mostly taken up with mock consultations with trained role-players in small groups.
The course is run by Dr. Bob Mortimer who is an experienced educationalist holding a Diploma in Medical Education. Bob is a GP Trainer and has past experience as a GP CPD Tutor, Course Organiser and Associate Director in the Welsh Deanery. Bob has been an MRCGP examiner for 10 years and is a CSA assessor and involved in training assessors for the new exam.
The aims of the course are to:
This is achieved in a mixture of large group plenary sessions and interactive small group work.
the lecture sessions are run in an informal style with plenty of discussion and interaction. Handouts will be provided to cover any factual information given.
The mock CSA sessions are conducted in small group goldfish bowl format. Each candidate will get the opportunity to attempt one or more CSA cases with feedback from both a trained assessor and the role-player.
The course will be Section 63/Section 2 approved. Travel and subsistence can therefore be claimed from PCOs and most Deaneries provide GP Registrars with assistance towards the tuition fee.
We could tell you how good the course is, but your best bet is to speak to someone who has been on it previously! The Swansea MRCGP Course has not advertised for 10 years - most of our candidates choose us through word of mouth recommendation. Click here to see feedback from previous attendees.
