Welcome to the website of the Swansea MRCGP Course, one of the UK's longest established preparatory courses for the Membership examination of the Royal College of General Practitioners.

Dr. Bob Mortimer has been running MRCGP courses in Swansea since 1994 and since September 2007 the course has been exclusively geared towards the nMRCGP examination. The course is also run in Oxford on behalf of the Oxford Deanery. We don't run courses for any other exam, our expertise is purely focused on nMRCGP.

Visit our nMRCGP Page for more details on the new assessment and here for the draft programme on which every course is based.

nMRCGP Course

The first nMRCGP Course was held in Swansea in September 2007. The course is held over two days with the first morning covering the Applied Knowledge Test (AKT) part of the exam, followed by lecture sessions on the Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA) in the afternoon. The second day is spent in small group practical sessions on realistic CSA-like cases with role-players and CSA Examiner feedback and teaching.

With experience and the feedback from our candidates the course has slowly evolved - there is now no session on the Work Place Based Assessment (WPBA) and there is no repetition of cases in the practical sessions. Many candidates wish to attend just the AKT session and defer the CSA session till later. This is no problem and you are free to attend just the AKT part of the course, just the CSA part or the whole course. Click here for our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Oxford Deanery Courses

In 2008 we were delighted to be commissioned to run courses in Oxford on behalf of the Oxford Deanery. Based on the Swansea course's reputation Dr. Simon Plint, the Director of General Practice and Primary Care for the Oxford Deanery invited Dr. Bob Mortimer to run courses on his behalf rather than have his own local staff develop a course from scratch.

Successful courses were run in January and March 2008, with a further course run in January 2009. There will be a course in Oxford in January 2010 also - please see this page for more details.
